"B4" Workshop

On Nov 15, we held a "Break Barriers, Build Beliefs (B4)" workshop at UUFR. 80 congregants attended the workshop to explore identity and bias, especially as it relates to our Lead Minister Search.Thank you to all who attended, our volunteers who helped run the event and provide food, and our childcare providers, and to our facilitator. It was a thought-provoking and informative event that opened many great questions about how we confront bias in ourselves and in our congregation.

Facilitator:
Rev. Patrice Curtis, Transformational Interim Ministries Director at the UUA

Some history:
The B4 Workshop incorporates wisdom from the UUA’s report, Widening the Circle of Concern. It asks the congregation to consider what biases it has (both conscious and unconscious) around identities that their potential minister may hold. Those identities can include gender, race, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, mental health, class, age, size, etc.
This program takes into account the realization that as UUs, we need to grapple with breaking old cultural habits, and rebuild belief in the power of Beloved Community.

Congregational Survey

The survey is closed
We received over 300 responses to our survey - thank you!
Next, the Search Team will analyze the results and write a summary report for candidates for Lead Minister to understand who we are, the characteristics we want in our next lead minister, and priorities for their work. A summary report will also be provided back to the congregation.

Searching Circles

Searching Circles are completed.
Thank you to the 200+ participants!

Searching Circles are small group discussions about UUFR’s identity, needs, and hopes for our next minister.
Next, the Search Team will summarize notes from these sessions to be shared to prospective ministers. It will help them understand who we are and what we hope for.
A summary report with key themes will also be shared with the congregation.
